Template:SongIndex

From BeatlesWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

This template is to be used when you need to index information about a song recording, mixing, rehearsal, a live performance, a radio/TV recording, etc. Everything that is related to a song's version.
The template uses the calling article title to auto-generate (among others) two attributes/relations: a song title and an index (based on Sulpy's indices)

[edit] Parameters

RevDate MANDATORY A date in reversed notation (YYYY-MM-DD). For example: 1963-05-17 means May 17, 1963.

You may also use 00 if a day or a month is unknown. For example: 1963-05-00 means sometime in May 1963 (exact day unknown). All three numbers are mandatory.

Date Optional This is the date to display on screen. In fact, it can be any text (1963 new year's eve is allowed for instance). Usually this parameter is omitted because the template automatically "translates" the RevDate parameter in a readable date.
ShortDescr Optional This highly recommended parameter describes shortly the event that occured that day. WikiText is allowed. See Created attributes section below for usage.
Version Optional This parameter is used to define the version. Particularly needed for home demos/studio recordings/mixing. Examples: "Take 1", "Official UK stereo", "Home Demo", "Get Back Session", etc...
VDescr Optional This parameter describes the version. If omitted (not recomended), if will take the value of ShortDescr (if any). See Created attributes section below for usage.

[edit] Created attributes

The following attributes/relations are created and may be used in Semantic Wiki queries.

Song This relation is autogenerated. It is based on the title of the article where the Template:SongIndex is used. The title of the article must ALWAYS be Title - Index (notice the "-" ) !
Index This attribute is autogenerated. It is based on the title of the article where the Template:SongIndex is used. The title of the article must ALWAYS be Title - Index (notice the "-" ) ! The format of the index should follow Sulpy's indices notation.
RevDate Based on the parameter of the same name, this attribute is used to sort events by date.
Date This is either autogenerated (based on RevDate parameter) or a copy of the Date parameter. It is used for display purposes only.
RevDayMonth Auto-generated, based on the RevDate parameter. This is in fact a copy of the last two numbers of the RevDate parameter. If RevDate=1963-05-17 then RevDayMonth='05-17'. This is used to classify events by day of the month.
ShortDescr Based on the parameter of the same name, this attribute is used to briefly describe the event that occured that day. This field will be used in date pages (like May 29 for instance).
Version Based on the parameter of the same name. This attribute will be used on songs' main pages (like Ain't She Sweet for instance) and on recording/mixing sessions pages (like Recording Session - June 3, 1966) to automatically display the available versions of a song.
VDescr Based on the parameter of the same name (or a copy of ShortDescr if omitted), this attribute is used to briefly describe the version that was recorded that day. This field will be used in songs' main pages (like Ain't She Sweet for instance).
Day Based on the day given in RevDate. If 0 then, Day=??
Month Based on the month given in RevDate. If 0 then, Month=??
Year Based on the Year given in RevDate.

[edit] Song version articles: recommandations

  1. Do not use this template for events not related to recordings. Use Template:Event instead. It features most of the same attributes and dates in Template:Event are indexed alongside the dates of Template:SongIndex
  2. Respect the required format for your article's title ! Your article's title must use the following format: "Song Title - Index". The Song must be properly spelled to link automatically to the song's main article. The Index of the song must be separated of the song's title using a "-" character.
  3. Most of the time, the Date parameter is not needed, don't bother to include it, it is automatically generated if omitted.
  4. The ShortDescr parameter may include WikiText; don't hesitate to add links and formatting if needed. See example below.
  5. It is a good idea to include some Template:Participant in your article to detail who participated to this song's version (musicians, engineers, producers, etc).
  6. Don't forget to mention Categories (at the end of your article, outside the Template). This will help classify the recording.
  7. Use the Preview button before submitting your article, don't forget to check the FactBox to make sure that Semantic Wiki has understood your parameters.
