Short description Recording Session. Songs recorded: The Inner Light and Across the Universe
Location Abbey Road Studios

Most of this session, besides a brief backing vocal overdub onto The Inner Light, was spent on Across the Universe. The session lased from 2:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Many sounds and instruments were tried out for the new song. Despite this, John was still dissatisfied with the final product. During a mixing session from 10:00 PM to 12:15 AM, they agreed that Lady Madonna would be the A-Side to their new single, and not Across The Universe, which they were still unsure on if and how to issue. Spike Milligan, who happened to be at the session, asked permission to use the song for a charity album called "No One's Gonna Change Our World." He first had the idea for the album in December 1967, though the album itself would not be released until December 1969. Because of that, bird sound effects were added onto the song on October 2, 1969.
